Bringing the Workshop to the World: Explore Your Potential with Our Mobile Makerspace

At Community Workshop, our mission is simple: to help people connect, learn, and create. We believe in endless possibilities, from the ancient art of blacksmithing to the cutting-edge tech of robotics, and from hydroponic gardening to handcrafted ceramics.

But what happens when you can't make it to our partner workshop?

Our answer came in the form of two retired ambulances. They're old, they require constant attention, and they are absolutely perfect. We're transforming these rugged vehicles into mobile extensions of our community, ensuring that exploring your passions isn't limited by location. They are rolling symbols of our belief that everyone deserves the chance to discover their potential, wherever they are.

Building Skills, One Wrench at a Time

We know that the best skills are learned by doing. These two trucks need a lot of TLC—mechanical work, body work, and electrical troubleshooting. So, we’ve turned their restoration into a powerful, hands-on job training program.

Under the guidance of our dedicated staff, participants are diving deep into real-world projects:

- Learning to diagnose and repair engines to keep our fleet running.

- Building custom interior cabinetry for comfort and storage.

- Wiring new electrical systems to power tools and lights.

This isn't just about fixing trucks. It's about building confidence, teamwork, and the kind of job skills that pave the way for fulfilling employment. Every wrench turned is a step toward a new career.

Creature Comforts and Mountain Adventures

Some of the best experiences happen outside our walls. Our community loves camping, fishing, archery, and exploring nature. But getting to those places—especially our mountain camp—can be a challenge.

That's why we're transforming one ambulance into a comfortable, accessible adventure vehicle. We're outfitting it with:

- Cozy, supportive seating for a comfortable ride.

- Big windows to take in every scenic view.

- Insulation for year-round adventures in any weather.

- Secure space for mobility devices, so the adventure is open to everyone.

Now, the journey to the mountain is just as fun as the destination. Whether it's a camping trip, a day of fishing, or a scenic drive, this vehicle helps us explore the beauty of Oregon, together.

A Mobile Makerspace: Your Passions, Anywhere

Our partner workshop is full of amazing tools for welding, 3D printing, ceramics, textiles, and electronics.

Our second ambulance is designed to bring those tools directly to you.

It's being built as a flexible mobile makerspace, featuring:

- Lots of available power to run welders, kilns, and 3D printers.

- An open floor plan that can be reconfigured for any project.

- Modular storage so we can swap equipment based on your interests.

Today: It might be loaded with metalworking tools for a blacksmithing demo.

Tomorrow: It could be filled with 3D printers and electronics for a robotics workshop.

And we're not stopping there. With two additional trailers to haul everything from gardening supplies to ceramics kilns, we're creating a rolling resource-sharing network that brings creativity directly to your community.

An Open Floor Plan, Open Doors for Everyone

At Community Workshop, a "welcoming community" means everyone. Our open floor plan is essential to that promise.

By keeping the interior clear, we can safely and comfortably secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Whether you're heading to the mountains or participating in a workshop, these vehicles ensure transportation is never a barrier to creativity.

This design also supports our attendant care model, allowing staff to provide caring companionship and tailored support during travel, respecting each person's autonomy every mile of the way.

Join Us and Discover the Possibilities!

These two ambulances are more than vehicles. They are a testament to our mission: empowering individuals with disabilities to lead independent, fulfilling lives and reach their full potential. But we need your help to cross the finish line and get them fully equipped.

- Want to learn a new skill? Come turn a wrench with us and be part of the build.
